The long awaited return of live tennis is finally around the corner. On Monday, April 27th, the Mutua Madrid Open kicks off with a star-studded field, headlined by Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and Karolina Pliskova. It also features a heavy Canadian contingent, with Denis Shapovalov, Bianca Andrescu, Caroline Wozniacki and Genie Bouchard all ready to partake. The only caveat is that instead of using their tennis rackets, they'll be dueling with Playstation 4 controllers in their hands. The events will be played virtually, with all matches taking place in the videogame Tennis World Tour, and being streamed live to Facebook gaming. In addition to the 16 ATP and 16 WTA players partaking in the tournament, it field will also feature some of the world's best professional tennis gamers. The players are playing to take home their share of the 300,000 euro purse, which the winners will then decide how best to allocate to charity. The tournament is also making a direct donation of 50,000 euros to the Madrid foodbank.
Matches kick of at 15:00 CEST (9:00 am EST) on Monday, and you can find more information about the Robin Round groups, as well as where to find the stream, here, and you can watch an example of Tennis World Tour gameplay below.
